Cía. Antonio Najarro

It is the title of one of the most fascinating and mysterious poems by Federico García Lorca

Since its publication as part of the Romancero gitano, its verses have not ceased to be read, recited or sung.

It is impossible to resist the spell that the poem exerts.

Despite its popularity, the verses have managed to preserve their mystery.

Federico García Lorca himself stated that in the romance “there is a great sense of anecdote, a sharp dramatic atmosphere, and nobody knows what happens, not even me, because the poetic mystery is also a mystery for the poet who communicates it, but who often ignores it”…

Tribute to Antonia Mercé, La Argentina

One of the greatest figures in Spanish dance, who in 1928 marked a milestone in history. Under his leadership, the Ballets Espagnols managed to bring together a constellation of the best Spanish creators in the fields of music, dance, costumes and set design. On June 18 of that year, Mercé premiered two ballets at the Théâtre Fémina in Paris, with great success among the press and the public, which are now being adapted:
Sonatina, by Ernesto Halffter, and El contrabandista, by Óscar Esplá.
Antonio Najarro has been in charge of recovering these ballets by creating two new choreographies. Eight dancers will defend the four styles of Spanish dance: stylized dance, the bolero school, flamenco and traditional Spanish dance.

It is the inclination or tendency of people to return to the place where they grew up or are accustomed to going

After the great success of the last show by Antonio Najarro’s Company, Alento, in which Stylized Dance and Flamenco evolve into more contemporary forms, thus displaying a new dance language and aesthetics, Antonio Najarro faces his sixth production, with the desire to revisit his origins, to recover and exalt the inspiration of the language of the great choreographic ballets that in their day made great figures such as Antonio Ruiz Soler, Mariemma, among others.

ALENTO Cia Antonio Najarro

Antonio Najarro's new creation.

Alento is a vivid reflection of Najarro’s style as a creator, as well as his personal vision of Spanish classical dance.

Inspired by the original score by composer and guitarist Fernando Egozcue, it will be performed live by Egozcue himself and four other musicians, and under the exquisite lighting of Nicolás Fischtel.

The work includes 8 choreographies, 6 of them premiered with great success by the Ballet Nacional de España in June 2015 and two of them premiered absolutely by the Antonio Najarro company on July 11, 2020.

After his time as director of the BALLET NACIONAL DE ESPAÑA for the last eight years, maestro Najarro premieres his most significant work, ALENTO, with his own Company.

Espectáculo flamencoriental de Antonio Najarro
In the show Flamencoriental I opted for a new merger, this time between flamenco and Spanish dance with dance and music of the Middle East.

In this new creation, I wanted again to present a great life show with 22 artists, composed of oriental musicians, flamenco musicians and dancers, where my choreographic language evolves from Spanish and flamenco dancing to the broad dance language of the different oriental cultures, inspired by the original compositions of excellent musicians, rich in rhythms and flamenco, Egyptian, Arab, Indian, Turkish….

and reaching the climax of the fusion between oriental dance and Spanish dance.

Jazzing Flamenco de Antonio Najarro
The show “JAZZING FLAMENCO” is the third production of the company ANTONIO NAJARRO.

The productions «TANGO FLAMENCO» and «FLAMENCORIENTAL» have been presented and continue to be presented with great success by the press and the public in many countries, which has allowed the consolidation of Antonio Najarro’s work as one of the greatest exponents of Classical – Spanish Dance and Flamenco both inside and outside of Spain.

This pushes the choreographer to create a new show, called Suite Sevilla, in which the Spanish Classical Dance serves as a guide fused with the new avant-garde trends both musical and dance that characterize and govern his personal style as creator.

Suite Sevilla
The show “SUITE SEVILLA” is the fourth production of the company ANTONIO NAJARRO. The successful career of the CAN, founded eight years ago, pushes the choreographer to create a new show in which the Spanish Classical Dance serves as a guide, fused with the new avant-garde trends, both musical and dance, that characterize and govern his personal style as creator

In «SUITE SEVILLA», Antonio Najarro has seven live musicians who interpret the extraordinary original score by Rafael Riqueni, one of the most important Spanish composers of our time, as well as Miguel Rivera.

The musical adaptation is in charge of Omar Acosta. Rafael Riqueni’s score captures aromas, traditional, longing and nostalgia. In it, the Flamenco guitar converges along with the rest of instruments describing Andalusian landscapes.

Since this longing and nostalgia was conceived, since it was in Madrid where it was composed. The remoteness and longing made Seville more beautiful in the eyes of the mind of Riqueni, a colorful city, which would be framed within the movement called Musical Nationalism
